Alot of good schools to compare. Tough to call with all the changes. Wasnt Jim Thorpe's Carlisle teams pretty good back in the day?

i didnt want to post the 61 or 79 teams, you guys would call me a homer.
It was on level playing fileds, but the game isn't nearly the same as the one we have now...In 1961 there wasn't that much difference.
61 was the hayday of the wishbone and triple option. Even 61 is antiquated compared to what we have today. Look at Navy today compared to other teams. There's a reason Nebraska isn't running that crap anymore. If you're judging by strictly basing on a season, you have to let each's accomplishments speak for themselves. The 61 Bama team was lightyears ahead of a 39 UT team in terms of speed/size/athletes/ect. The same can be said for even the Bama team of today vs. a 61 team. I'd probably take the Bama team today. They'd out athlete them any day of the week. I'd doubt that a 61 or 39 team could keep up with the top 2-3 players from an average program today.
That's true...My point is that by 1961, things had evolved to the point that it is recognizable as the game is today. In the 30's football didn't much resemble what we have today. The key to me is the play and responsibilities of the QB position...
The responsiblities of a QB in the triple option is no where near as tough as they are in most of today's offenses.
I'm goin with the last USC trojan team that won a title...
1971 Cornhuskers
1947 Fightin' Irish
1995 Cornhuskers
2001 Miami
1961 Bama
